The DOT physical exam is required for all drivers who want to operate vehicles on public roads or highways. A person will need to take this exam when applying for their commercial driver’s license (CDL). This ensures that your health is good enough to operate a vehicle safely. The DOT physical exam includes several parts, such as the following:

  • Vision test – This part of the exam checks one’s eyesight to make sure it meets federal standards. One will need 20/40 vision in one eye and 20/70 in the other eye with or without glasses or contact lenses. If a person is wearing glasses or contacts during the exam, they must be clear. If one passes this portion of the exam, they will be provided with recommendations for how often they should go for DOT exams.
  • Blood tests – The examiners will take samples of your blood for testing, including an HIV antibody, etc. Call home for more details!
